Blog Introduction: Alaska is a truly unique and beautiful place, and there is no shortage of things to see and do. If you’re planning a trip to Alaska and want to make the most of your time, here’s a suggested 10-day itinerary that will let you take in some of the best that the state has to offer.
Day 1:
Arrive in Anchorage and spend the day exploring the city. Check out the local museums, restaurants, and shops, and make sure to get a good night’s sleep so you’re rested for the journey ahead.
Day 2:
Drive up to Denali National Park and spend the day hiking, wildlife watching, and taking in the stunning scenery. Denali is home to some of Alaska’s most iconic animals, so keep your eyes peeled for moose, bears, caribou, and more.
Day 3:
Head back down to Anchorage and spend the day kayaking or SUPing in Resurrection Bay. With its calm waters and spectacular mountain views, Resurrection Bay is one of Alaska’s most popular paddling destinations. No experience is necessary, as there are plenty of outfitters who offer lessons and rentals.
Day 4:
Drive north to Seward and take a cruise through Kenai Fjords National Park. Along the way you’ll spot glaciers, whales, orcas, seals, sea otters, bald eagles, and other wildlife. Be sure to bring your camera!
Day 5:
Spend the day horseback riding or ATVing through Chugach State Park. With over 495,000 acres of forested mountains, valleys, rivers, and glaciers, Chugach is one of the largest state parks in America.
Day 6:
Drive south towards Valdez and take a boat tour through Prince William Sound. This area is known for its amazing wildlife viewing opportunities, so keep your eyes peeled for sea lions, otters, seals, eagles, whales, porpoises, and more.
Days 7-8:
Explore Valdez at your leisure. This historic town was once home to gold miners during the Klondike Gold Rush of 1898. Today it’s a popular tourist destination for those looking to fish, hike , camp , or enjoy some winter sports .
Day 9:
Drive down to Homer— AKA “the Halibut Fishing Capital of the World”—and charter a boat for a day of fishing . You don’t need any prior experience; just bring your sense of adventure (and maybe some seasickness medication).
Day 10:
Depart from Homer , having experienced some of the best that Alaska has to offer . From towering mountain peaks to calving glaciers , pristine forests , abundant wildlife , rushing rivers , scenic paddling routes , and more , Alaska really does have it all . Bon voyage!
